At the recent SPE Council meeting in Quebec City, Canada, Kathy Miller, the SPE's Systems Information Manager, provided the Councilors with a first look at the newly redesigned SPE website.  Brighter, more concise, and easier to navigate, the new design helps users find what they want, more quickly.  It's a substantial improvement over the previous layout--Give it a try! 
SPE Foundation Announces Two New Scholarships
The SPE Foundation announced the endowment of two new, US$3,000 per year scholarships.  The Ed Fleming/Pete Blaszcak Scholarship has been endowed by Alex Mora of Formula Plastics in honor of the two men who were most influential in starting his career.  The Ted Neward Scholarship is endowed by Ruth Neward, in honor of her late husband, a plastics pioneer.

even though expenses have been cut and staff reduced by 15%, we will experience a net deficit of about US$450,000.  The Finance Committee and the Staff are working on proposed actions to reduce some of these impacts.
New SPE Learning Tools
Susan Oderwald, Deputy Executive Director, presented three new SPE products:
1.  The Plastics Technician's Toolbox, which provides basic and on-going technical help for the working technician;
2.  Ten Fundamentals of Thermoforming, a two-video program with a companion volume.  Written by Bill McConnell, a "guru" in the field of thermoforming, this is one of the best resources for anyone working in the field of Thermoforming.
3.  The SPE Guide on Extrusion Technology and Troubleshooting, an in-depth reference written by some of the top authors and practitioners in the field.
